Blog Emotion Fall 2020
Emotions are celebrated and repressed, analyzed and medicated, adored and ignored — but rarely, if ever, are they honored.” – Karla McLaren
From Tavish: I spent Ignorance Weekend catching up with a couple of dear friends that I hadn’t seen in a very long time. I don’t participate much in social media, so I was uninformed, even ignorant, about some important events in each of their lives. As we broke down 30 years of life-changing moments over the course of three days, we ran the gamut of emotions, sometimes in the same 30 second span of time! We were laughing, crying, dancing, singing … I mean, we call it singing…
We had the rare opportunity to see a sped-up version, almost like a film, of feelings in action and it was truly fascinating and I'm still taking it all in. Even though the emotions around each experience existed in the past, the retelling often produced the original sentiments, as if no time had passed. We spent some time in quiet support of each other, while at the same time infusing new perceptions into each of the vastly different experiences. The music that tied our memories together then, was still holding a strong bond and I think we each walked away with a deeper understanding of ourselves, just from sharing deep stories. The dancing and singing was a cool nod to our younger selves, and I hope we each still do that regularly - I know I'm more agreeable when I do!
As I drove home from the weekend, my feelings stayed with with me and I felt both supported and supportive. I played random music most of the 7 hour drive and it felt like being in a time machine. I let the old songs wash over me as I listened to familiar tunes for new meaning. I thought about friendships and family members. I thought about the perspective that time gives to our emotions. But mostly I thought about our world - the root system that connects us, and how uniquely we each exist in it.

From Quan:
Must be love talkin' about love.
You've got the best of my love (which implies love amounts can be measured).
Hooked on your love.
Say you love me.
What's love got to do with it?
This week in feeling/emotion, Love rules & wins the day. If you've got to double down, let it be with love.
Love repeats itself.
As we move into the only concentrated water sign of Scorpio, we can collectively feel what matters to all we meet.
Who's Zooming Who? I appreciate Aretha's 80's tune and I find this transactional lyric needs to aspire to make us better people.
Transparent Aquarians inspire all of us in a Scorpio season to expand our minds. In turn, our souls stay present while simultaneously recognizing which histories need not to be repeated. One connecting place of evolving history comes through our feelings. We must create a shared safe space without any cultural domination. Euphemisms have to cease.
My best emotion comes from my homie Stevie Wonder who wrote 'Love Is In Need Of Love'. He also started his own label this week 'What The Fuss Music'.
Let your sensitivities be shown.
Ask for the love you need.
Then drop the mic.
Allow others the space to approach you in their own time.
